Sports

LTU may be a small students union but we offer a tremendous range of sports clubs and we have a large number of students’ involved in our teams. We show dedication and improvement not only in the competitive playing of the teams through BUCS (British Universities Colleges Sports) but also the professionalism and overall management of the teams. LTU empowers each of the teams to take full ownership and accountability for the success and running of the club. Each year every sports team elects an executive committee which usually consists of a captain, a chairman, a social secretary and a treasurer. These voluntary positions allow individuals to execute managerial duties, and the experience equips them with valuable life skills.

Sports teams run very similar to societies in that they have to provide LTU with a current membership list of ten or more students. Each player has to pay a membership subscription and each team must provide LTU with a constitution, in order for the sports team to be officially ratified by the Union Council.  LTU provides each team with a budget and we support the clubs in co-ordinating transport, co-ordinating sports tours, securing playing insurance, provide match teas, ensuring that teams have practice space, ensure that they have referees and that they adhere to our policies with regards to good sportsmanship and conduct.

We have 11 active sports clubs which are as follows;

  • Ladies Basketball
  • Mens Basket ball
  • Cricket
  • Ladies Football
  • Mens Football
